Get Active & Join the Fun No matter what season of the year, Saline is always buzzing with festivals, fairs, parades and a host of athletic and recreational activities. Saline comes alive in spring with The Taste of Saline – a celebration of Saline’s unique history as well as our local culinary, artistic and musical talents. Summer sets the stage for great music, food and entertainment at the Saline Summer Music Series, the Celtic Festival and Summerfest. We celebrate the bounty of the fall season with Oktoberfest, and wintertime sparkles in Saline with the annual holiday parade and Winterfest. Craft shows, farmers’ markets, antiques markets, sporting events, cultural events and concerts, Movies in the Park and much more round out the year, and we invite you to come join the fun! The Saline Recreation Center is a wonderful and affordable community resource with two indoor pools, exercise and weight rooms, multiple indoor and outdoor courts and a variety of fitness classes, leagues and fun community activities. In addition, Saline High School’s expansive sports complex, stadium and aquatics center play host to numerous sporting events and tournaments throughout the year. If you’re looking to enjoy the great outdoors, visit any one of our 12 existing neighborhood and community parks. They feature plenty of lush green space, play structures, picnic areas and shelters, biking and walking trails, dog parks, sport fields and courts, boat launch ramps, restrooms and other amenities. Coming soon is an exciting new addition to Saline, the development of a new Salt Springs Park along the beautiful Saline River, which will feature Saline’s recently rediscovered natural salt springs while also offering some intriguing peeks into Saline’s well-seasoned past with educational and interpretive displays.
Pave It Forward Pave It Forward – what does this mean for Saline? The Pave It Forward Campaign, organized by Saline Main Street, the City of Saline, and the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce, is a call to action to remind our community to shop in Saline and continue to visit Saline-based businesses throughout the 2016 road construction and streetscape improvement project and beyond. But at the heart of the matter, it’s also about being kind to your neighbors. The basic premise is that by doing good things now for others, maybe enduring some temporary inconveniences, eventually good things will come to you. Good things like smooth, newly paved roads, improved traffic flow and pedestrian safety, a modernized water and sewer infrastructure, an even more beautiful streetscape in our downtown setting, and thriving downtown businesses that bring commerce, convenience and culture to our community. You are ‘paying in advance’ for things that will pay you back as Saline paves the road toward its future. Saline businesses are unique enterprises that contribute to the character of our community — they create a web of economic and social interaction that links us together as neighbors. There are many reasons to ‘shop local,’ but the following statistics really prove it: For every $1.00 spent at a locally owned business, $0.73 remains in the local economy. For every $1.00 spent at a non-locally owned business, $0.43 remains local. For every $1.00 spent online, $0.0 remains local. We can all make a difference by being kind to our neighbors and fellow motorists during construction, and by supporting our local businesses, now and in the future.
